Peter Warden, a former Apple engineer, likes to analyze data — so much so that he started scraping public profiles and photos from hundreds of millions of Facebook accounts about a year ago, and now has data collected from more than 200 million about the world. The graph below is reprinted from that post, with Warden’s permission:. He wrote a fascinating post afresh on his personal blog about what that data shows about how commutual (or disconnected) users in the assorted American states are.

As large as it is, Facebook also still represents only a small allotment of the American population, and acceptable a fairly homogeneous allotment at that, although the social network is becoming more cosmopolitan, according to the most recent demographic analysis of Facebook users. Of course, Warden’s data — which he collected in the advance of analyzing Facebook profiles and fan pages common for assorted accumulated customers — only reflects what users of Facebook accept to reveal about themselves, and many don’t include all their accompany or added information in their public profiles.
