Sprint Introduces the Palm Pre

Palm has release their all new Pre on the Sprint mobile network. This is really the last chance for Palm who has failed to capitalize on the original explosive popularity of the Palm Pilot in the 90’s

The Pre is a quite impressive competitor to the the current smartphone offerings by Apple, Google & RIM. It offers a full slide-down QWERTY keyboard and a very smooth and curvy style. The all new WebOS is very impressive for it’s first public release, there is a lot more fit and finish than Android even with their 1.5 (Cupcake) update.

There are several problems with this initial release of WebOS. It lacks many of the conveniences that exist in the iPhone when navigating and typing on the keyboard. The visual appeal of the OS is very good, though the interface lacks a sense of obviousness that really needs to exist on consumer devices. Reading the manual just to do basic tasks should not be required, the OS assumes you already know how to navigate, it does not really give you hints as to how to go back or close a program.

Currently the Palm Pre is exclusively available on the Sprint network and is priced at $199 (with contract)
